Four Quick Steps to Avoid Summer Reading Regression and Foster Critical Thinking
1. Every student should engage in reading material on their independent reading level for a minimum of 20-30 minutes daily.
2. The level of the material being read should meet the learner at their independent level which is not be too easy or not too hard, but just right! (Think Goldie Locks)
3. The material being read should be a combination as well as informational text. (Think stories with a plot as well as information book, articles, and current events.)
4. The reader should have a level of accountability to process, reflect, respond, and deepen their understanding of the content or topic that was read. (Think share, connect, and defend your thinking.)
